How do we keep homeownership accessible to our most vulnerable communities? As predatory real-estate firms focus only on selling houses at ever increasing prices, and demand for housing only increasing – we will need a new system all together.
A community land trust provides the path for communities to build accessibility to housing and real-estate for their whole community. They do this by buying the land as a community, building the houses as a cooperative, then leasing the homes at a price set by the community.
Beyond simply making housing affordable for everyone, community land trusts provide everyone with the opportunity to be actively involved in planning and building the cities they may live in their whole lives. We can create a vision of a better city, then use democratic decision making through an elected council to make it a reality.
